ACTION ALERT: Keep Black and Brown kids with their families

It’s time to end the state-sanctioned child trafficking of our babies.

47,000 people in Washington right now are raising a relative’s child. For every child in formal foster care, there are 11 being raised by grandparents outside the system. You know what help they get? About $300. Less than HALF that offered for foster children (which is STILL too little). This needs to change.

We need you to tell WA lawmakers: Say YES to SB 5151 “The Kinship Care Bill,” and get it through the House Committee on Children, Youth & Families.

About the Bill

SB 5151 would license—and provide resources to—family to care for relatives without bringing them into the foster system.

Representatives Senn, Harris-Talley, Rule, Dent, Chase, McCaslin, Callan, Eslick, Goodman, Klippert, Ortiz-Self, Wicks, and Young,

47,000 people in Washington right now are raising a relative’s child. For every child in formal foster care, there are 11 being raised by grandparents outside the system. Those caregivers deserve the licensing and resources they need to keep Black and Brown families together.

I strongly urge you to pass SB 5151 through the Children, Youth & Families committee.

In solidarity with Black Lives across Washington.
