ACTION ALERT: Tell the Governor. Keep Black Kids with their Families

It’s time to end the state-sanctioned child trafficking of our babies.

Fam, SB 5151 is on its way to the Governor’s desk right now. This bill is 40 years in the making. This is about *our* families keeping our kids *and* getting the financial support they need to do so.

If children are to be taken away from their family, giving relatives a chance to care for their kin maintains connection, culture, and community. Kin matters. #BlackLivesMatter.

Tell the Governor NOW: We demand an end to state-sanctioned trafficking of our children into the state foster and adoption system. Sign SB 5151 “The Kinship Care Bill,” IN. TO. LAW.

About the Bill
SB 5151 establishes a child-specific license to a relative or suitable person who opts to become licensed for placement of a child and that child’s siblings or relatives in the department’s care and custody—and provides resources to families to care for relatives without bringing them into the foster system.

Governor Inslee,

One of the most important bills to come to your desk is SSB 5151 - Concerning foster care and child care licensing.

The Washington Black Lives Matter Alliance has heartfully advocated for this bill each step of the way through the 2021 legislative session.

Black and brown families demand an end to state-sanctioned trafficking of children into the state foster and adoption system.

SSB 5151 is one of the most generationally impactful, anti-racist, equity-related bills introduced in this session.

Washington state must, and can do better for our children, with your signature. We demand this bill be signed into law.

For all Black Lives,
